Academic Senate

The 色中色 Academic Senate meets on the first and third Wednesdays of each month during the fall and spring semesters.
Special meetings may be called by the Academic Senate President.
All meetings begin at 2:30 p.m in the Board room., and all meetings will be available to the public via Zoom Online Conferencing. Zoom invitations will be published with each agenda at least 72 hours in advance of the scheduled meeting.

 

Committee Purpose
The purpose of this organization shall be to represent the faculty in the formation
of college and district policy on academic and professional matters, as mandated by
Title 5, Section 53200 (b) and AB-1725, Shared Governance, to include:
  1. Curriculum, including establishing prerequisites and placing courses within disciplines;
  2. Degree and certificate requirements;
  3. Grading policies;
  4. Educational program development;
  5. Standards or policies regarding student preparation and success;
  6. District and college governance structures, as related to faculty roles;
  7. Faculty roles and involvement in accreditation processes, including self-study and annual reports;
  8. Policies for faculty professional development activities;
  9. Processes for program review;
  10. Processes for institutional planning and budget development; and
  11. Other academic and professional matters as mutually agreed upon between the Governing Board and the Academic Senate.
Further, according to the California Code of Regulations, Section 53100, Article 2, the Board of Trustees
shall 鈥減rimarily rely upon鈥 the Academic Senate for recommendations regarding curriculum, degree and
certificate requirements, grading policies, education program development, standards or policies
regarding student preparation and success, and policies for faculty professional development activities.
 
It is the duty of the Senate to address, either directly or through its designated
committees, all matters pertaining to the educational well-being of the college, to develop and establish
[faculty] positions on all such matters and to inform all relevant constituencies, inside and outside the
college, of these positions. The Senate shall also assume responsibilities as legally directed, for
example, by the California Code of Regulations, Section 53100, Article 2.
